Dog Sport Demonstrations:
Agility: A dog sport in which a handler directs a dog through an obstacle course in a race for both time and accuracy. Dogs generally run off-leash with no food or toys as incentives. Demonstration by Kim Amatucci of The Perfect Pooch L.L.C. Training & Behavior Consulting.
Schutzhund: A dog sport that was developed in Germany in the early 1900s to test whether German Shepherd Dogs act and perform in the manner that the breed was intended, rather than simply evaluating a dog's appearance. Demonstration by Tim Clothier of Northern Pine Kennels.
Flyball: A dog sport in which teams of dogs race against each other from a start/finish line, over a line of hurdles, to a box that releases a tennis ball to be caught when the dog presses the spring loaded pad, then back to their handlers while carrying the ball.
Rally Obedience: A dog sport based on obedience. Unlike regular obedience, instead of waiting for the judge's orders, the competitors proceed around a course of designated stations with the dog in heel position. The course consists of 10 to 20 signs that instruct the team what to do. Unlike traditional obedience, handlers are allowed to encourage their dogs during the course. Demonstration by Beth Moody of To the Rescue! K9 College.
Dog Games:
King and Queen of Bash: Each year a Boxer King and Queen are selected by the attendees of bash. Any dog that attends can enter the competition for a $5 fee. The winner will be announced and prizes will be awarded during the Award Ceremony that day.
Pie Eating Contest: Any dog can enter for a $1 fee. The dogs are given a bowl of whip cream to eat, the first one done wins. Winner receives a prize bag.
Egg Race: Any dog can enter for a $1 fee. Participants hold an egg on a spoon in one hand and walk their dog with the other. The first one to make it from the start line to the finish line wins. Winner receives a prize bag.
Swim Suit Contest: ** NEW THIS YEAR** Entry is free. Bring a picture of your dog dressed in their best summer gear. See examples to the right. Put the picture on a coffe can, decorated it to get attention, and a slit in the top for votes (money). The winner will be the dog that receives the most cash votes. Winner receives a prize bag. |
